On a more contemporary note.....Len Shelley lives and works in Hastings. Much of his work grows from the collections made from combing the beach. The creatures he creates are given personalities and a narrative, one which is often a little askew and amusing.You can see more of his work on his website.
Sadly a few days after writing this post Len died.
