All illustrators need a good story. Usually the best are found through observing real life in some way. Owain Thomas is an illustration student at the Royal College of Art who has given himself the brief of illustrating one story each day which occurs somewhere in the national press. So a quick trawl of a newspaper provides the story. The challenge and the discipline come from doing this every day. Maybe this means making something from subject matter which is not so immediately appealing or familiar. Maybe it's a challenge which broadens ones repertoire.
